Logorhythms is an American multinational corporation and technology company headquartered in Palo Alto, California. Before the Singularity, it was best known for creating consumer electronics and AI. Behind the scenes, however, it developed the first Uploaded Intelligence technology in the 2000s.

It serves as the main antagonistic faction of Season 1 and a minor antagonist of Season 2. Following the arrest of Julius Pope, the company moved on without him, and was active by the 2040s.

History[]

Holstrom era[]

Logorhythyms was founded by Stephen Holstrom. When it was a startup, Holstrom made risky decisions that ended up paying off. Soon, it became a world class technology. While Logorhythyms specialized in consumer electronics, the company also had various government contracts with different agencies.

Eventually, Holstrom thought of a way to avoid death by uploading the minds of people onto The Cloud. While succeeding in finding a method, he encountered a flaw in the process. Eventually, all uploaded minds decay, with is sped up the faster a UI moves. Holstrom struggled to comprehend a way to crack integrity, dying before doing so. However, Holstrom left behind a backup plan to ensure his life’s work is completed.

Pope era[]

After Holstrom's death, Pope took over as CEO and oversaw both the official and underground projects Logorythyms undertook. He took the company public not long after. At one point, he received word that Laurie Lowell, a brilliant stock trader working for Shire and Stern was mortally wounded in a car crash and tricked her husband Cody into letting them perform an upload procedure on her. While it was a success, they lied to her husband and told him it failed.

A year later David Kim, a Logorythyms employee, was diagnosed with a terminal illness. David was offered the opportunity to have his mind uploaded, he accepted and, like the Lowells, the procedure was a success and he was used for free labor while his family was lead to believe it failed.

Two years after David’s upload, David learned the truth and he reached out to his family. When they came to Logarythms for answers they agreed to a meeting with David's wife Ellen and his daughter Maddie to have David's upload deleted. Initially, Pope planned to keep them quiet until the threat of slander and ridicule. However with the help of Laurie, who escaped her containment, Maddie brings the company to its knees by crashing their servers and coasting them them hundreds of thousands of dollars a minute. She agrees to restore control if they give her David. Reluctantly, Pope hands over her father. In retaliation, Pope tasks Peter Waxman with developing a program to track UIs so that they can locate and delete David.

In addition, Pope is outraged and disgusted when Ajit Prasad, the CEO of Alliance Telecom, reveals he stole deep scan technology and he warns Prasad to be careful. After learning that the company’s UI, Vinod Chanda, escaped and killed Prasad and his family, Pope instructed Waxman to offer their help however they can.

When overseeing Project Caspian, Cary Duvall and Renee are hired to act as Caspian's parents to ensure the clone grows up to think like his template. As an added precaution, the company oversaw Caspian's internet activity to make sure he did not get too close to the truth. Karl Van Leuwen, Holstrom's therapist, was brought in to help plan Caspian’s life and help adapt it to the modern day. However, they face several bumps along the way. At one point, Caspian comes into contact with Maddie after finding her post about Logorythyms holding her father hostage. When a critical infection point in Caspian’s development, watch his father walk out on the family after breaking his mother’s arm, Cary was hesitant, resulting in Renee breaking her own arm. Deirdre Ryan feels the project is too unstable and suggests terminating it multiple times. When telling this to Cary, he became enraged and ran off to warn him. After revealing the truth to Caspian, Renee shoots Cary as Caspian drives off.

Fearing he failed his friend, Pope slips into a state of depression. However, once the upload technology is leaked to several governments around the world, including the American government, two representatives come to Palo Alto to get the company’s help, unaware that they got past the basics. As thanks, the government says they owe Logorythyms a favor, Pope uses it as an opportunity to track down Caspian. After tracking Caspian down to a convent in Kansas City, Pope goes to the teenager convinces Caspian to come to Svalbard with him by agreeing to let the teenager run the company. He gives Caspian thirty million in bitcoin as a show of trust, which Caspian gifts to Maddie as thanks for helping him.

Once they reach Svalbard, Caspian is greeted by his parents, Van Leuwen, and Ryan. He berates them for grooming him into his template and fires his parents. After convincing Caspian to work on curing the flaw, the teenager chooses David and uses his backup to crack integrity. As this is happening, David broadcasts Laurie’s message to the world, revealing the existence of UIs to the masses. Cody and Ellen attend a protest outside the company’s headquarters in Palo Alto and reveal what they know. Waxman exits the facility and confirms their claims. Because of this, he is forced to stay in Norway.

After the Internet Shutdown, Logorythyms is shut down and operates out of their Svalbard facility .Caspian tried desperately to find a cure for the flaw to no avail. However, he finds a cure after speaking with Maddie, who was brought to the facility. Once David is cured, his upload is deleted and the teenagers are locked in a room as Holstrom's cryogenically preserved brain is uploaded and, once he is cured, ordered for Caspian to be killed.

In Washington, D.C., Ellen testifies before Congress about the UIs, which pressures the military into letting Waxman testify. Under threat to his freedom and Maddie's safety, he is forced to commit perjury. However, he leaves a secret message for Ellen and she tips Congress off and the company's base in Svalbard and the FBI is sent to arrest everyone on sight.

Maddie and Caspian escape and get the cure back and, with the help of Cary, fly to Washington D.C. as Pope and the other Logorythyms employees are arrested.

Limbo era[]

After Logorythyms is officially shut down, Maddie buys their Palo Alto headquarters and turns it into a company specializing in making robots bodies for UIs to visit the physical world. The building also doubles as headquarters for the council of embodied delegates.

Leadership[]

Logorhythms' hierarchy and leadership are ambiguous. Deirdre Ryan is the fifth most important person at the company, yet there are only four executives of note in Pantheon, suggesting an unseen Chief Operating Officer or other executive unconcerned with Uploaded Intelligence. Peter Waxman, while higher in rank, is de facto held in less regard and is not clued into the company's inner workings.
