We Are You is the seventh episode of the first season of the AMC+ animated sci-fi drama, Pantheon.
Synopsis[]
Caspian searches for a new life; The superpowers catch up; Laurie and Chanda consider moves that could change the world forever.
Plot[]
As American representatives demonstrate a drone to a Saudi Prince, Arkady Koslov, the Russian UI, is tasked by the GRU to sabotage the deal. He hacks into the drone and as the Americans controlling the drone from an Air Force base in Nevada struggle to regain control, Arkady fires a missile at the prince and the Americans, killing all of them. All but one GRU operative exits Arkady's server and the remaining agent witnesses Arkady having a three way with cat women, much to his disgust. His supervisor soon removes his virtual reality goggles. The GRU confirm that they can not be traced as the culprits and confirm that the intel on the UI flaw is real. The commanding officer decided to keep Arkady in the dark on the flaw and sees him as replaceable.
In Sacramento, Ellen Kim and Maddie Kim are panic buying in preparation for the damage the UIs could cause. David Kim calls his family to inform them Laurie Lowell is planning to go public about Uploaded Intelligence, shocking Maddie.
As Laurie records a message, Vinod Chanda chastises her for attempting to endanger their existence and David tries to ease the tension. As Laurie mentions the actions the other UIs that affected the physical world, Chonda claims that they are like them and must warn them about the flaw. Laurie states they were ignored when warning them about the flaw and Chonda insists their governments ignored them. They struggle to think of what to do next as David volunteers to try something and Laurie gives him twenty-four hours. She leaves and takes her cabin as Chonda and David discuss the tracking problem that lets Chonda know who the UIs are but cannot locate them. Chonda says Laurie is emotional due the the flaw and leaves when David mentions the Prasad's murder. David tells his family about the events and Maddie states she agrees with Chonda despite not trusting him. Ellen asks if David has a plan and he has them enlist the help of Peter Waxman.
Ax Waxman is watching his daughter in ballet class, Ellen goes over to him and states she needs his help. He reveals they have no cure for the flaw, but Ellen states they need his UI tracking program as a war is on the horizon.
In Palo Alto, Cary Duvall wakes up to a nurse telling him his family is visiting. He looks over and sees Renee, Julius Pope, Deirdre Ryan, and Karl Van Leuwen. He and Renee pretend to act lovingly and the nurse leaves. Renee tells Cary he is out of the inner circle and Pope brings up that Cary claimed to be shot by a mugger and berate him for revealing the truth to Caspian. Cary says he learned Rachel Brooks was an actor and revealing the truth was the only way to salvage the plan and that when they find Caspian, he will be the only one the boy will trust. Pope stops Renee from punching Cary and pulls her aside. He tells Renee he does not believe Cary, but wants to control who he talks to and decides to take him back to Norway.
In Kansas City, Caspian Keyes jumps off a train and walks around until he finds a convent. He hears one of the monks, Brother Kenneth, talking to some homeless teenagers and asks to join.
Back in Sacramento, Cody Lowell is packing when he finds Maddie at his door. He lets her in and she tells him Laurie is planning to reveal UIs to the public. Cody logs into his wife’s server and berates her for her actions. He is hurt she did not tell him she predicted David would tell his family they would tell him. She tells Cody to prepare for her death as the amount she will need to go public with kill her. He says he is prepared for her death and reveals he is going to Svalbard to get Laurie's source code. She criticizes his plans and tells Cody she does not want him to reboot her and kicks him out of her server after he asks why. After failing to log back in, Cody destroys his tech in a fit of rage.
Waxman finishes downloading a copy of the tracking program when Pope calls him to a conference room. Waxman is introduced to Admiral Kurts and Stephen Gold from the NSA. Kirts and Gold reveal they are working on uploaded intelligence and need their help as they encountered the flaw. Pope and Waxman act surprised by the knowledge and lie that their research on the topic ended after encountering the flaw. Waxman gets the NSA agents what they need as Pope asks for the NSA to track down Caspian, claiming they could use him on their team for the topic.
In Kansas City, Caspian is teaching a math class at the convent when he suddenly thinks of an equation. He becomes lost in thought as he solves the problem. He catches one of the students recording him and deletes the video. Caspian exits the room as Brother Kenneth watches. Brother Kenneth joins Caspian for lunch and checks in. He tries to get Caspian to open up and tells Caspian he was in a metal band. He tells Caspian that most of the Christians at the covent believe their destiny is predetermined, but that they also have free will and can possibly alter their fate if they choose so.
At the Kim house, Waxman hands over the track data and the Kims invite him in to speak with David, but David declines. Laurie returns and Chonda arrives, David reveals he invited them both to give him a speed advantage. Chonda rebuilds the program and they realize the Chinese UIs are attacking Logorhythms. Maddie and Ellen tell Waxman about the attack and he agrees not to tell his company.
David, Laurie, and Chonda reach the Chinese UIs- Han Ping, Zhong Shuchun, and Bai Fu- and are confronted by them. The three confront the Chinese UIs and try to talk with them but they attack. In the Kim's basement, Maddie notices something is wrong as the server is overheating Waxman gets a call about the spike, but brushes it off as a .load balancer and tells them to ignore it as the system is holding. David, Laurie and Chonda try to warn the Chinese UIs about the flaw, but they ignore them. David and his allies restrain the three and show them the evidence and only Ping believes them. Laurie glitches and the Chinese UIs break free. David, Laurie, and Chonda escape and Chonda criticizes Laurie . She says she is close to the end and decides to go public and warn the masses. Chonda attacks and David defends her. David threatens to send out the message if Chonda destroys Laurie and Chonda leaves.
In Kansas City, Caspian is serving lunch to the homeless who a man addresses him by name and asks Caspian to join him. Caspian does so and the man introduces himself as Julius Pope and Caspian deduces the NSA helped track him down. He tells Caspian Cary is alright and that he has no idea what the teenager is going through despite the psych models. Pope tells him he and Holstrom were friends and Caspian agrees to go with him if he is given full control of Logorhythms and will shut down the UI program and expresses his desire to break it apart. He is surprised how calm Pope is at the mention of dismantling the company and Pope tells Caspian how he was critical of Holstrom's choices in the beginning but by the time Holstrom thought of uploading minds, he would always agree with him. Caspian doubts Pope until Pope says he is scared as Caspian is the only person who could see the world as Holstrom had, and Caspian agrees to go with him.
At the Kim House, Cody arrives after Maddie invites him over and he puts on her gear, as he destroys his, and logs onto his wife’s server. When he Maddie asks how he plans to stop Laurie, he tells her he cannot change his wife’s mind and is only there to say goodbye to Laurie. Maddie leaves and Cody speaks with Laurie. Laurie stops recording when she sees Cody and they apologize. Cody says he is going to Norway to get her source code, but Laurie reveals that if he succeeds, that version of her will have no memory of her being an upload and not remember the last two years. Cody insists he would still love her, but says she did not love Cody at the time, hurting him. Cody says he just wanted to spend more time with Laurie as she said he resented her for her career taking off. He denies this but she reveals that after learning that he could love her without touching her and the devotion he had to free her, made her fall back in love with him and she does not want to go back to who she was then and said she is only able to go public because of the support Cody gave her.
As Maddie walks, she gets a call from Chonda. Chonda reveals he sees Laurie and David as threats and says her father will suffer the same fate as Laurie if he interferes with his plans. Maddie runs back home but Chonda reveals she will never make it in time and launches a mission at the cargo ship housing Laurie's server just as she finishes her recording.
