Zero Daze is the fifth episode of the first season of the AMC+ animated sci-fi drama, Pantheon.
Synopsis[]
Caspian fights to learn the truth about his identity; An unlikely team builds David a new home in a familiar place; David and Laurie fight to evade those who are trying to delete them.
Plot[]
In Norway, Julius Pope is speaking with Peter Waxman about the chaos occurring in the wake of Ajit Prasad's death and Alliance falling apart. They refuse to hand over data on Vinod Chanda, and thus cannot help Alliance. Pope remarks that they will have practice killing UIs the following day.
At the Kim House, Maddie Kim is thinking of ways to fix the flaw with David Kim, Cody Lowell, and Laurie Lowell when David starts to glitch and Laurie realizes Logorhythms found his servers and she backs up as much of David as she can. The background falls apart as Cody leaves and warns Maddie to do the same. Maddie. Once she removes her virtual reality goggles, Ellen Kim comforts her daughter as Cody enters her room to reveal the servers are being turned off and Laurie reveals Logorhythms bought the company that owns the building earlier that day. In Oregon, Logorythms employees finish unplugging the servers and contact Waxman, telling him David's source code was transferred before they could obtain it.
in Norway, Anssi is making hot chocolate when he receives a call from Karl Van Leuwen about Cary running and hands the call to Pope, telling him they have no idea where Cary is. Meanwhile, Cary hides behind a pillar in a gas station in the desert and, when a man goes inside, he steals the man’s car and drives off.
In San Clemente, Caspian Keyes finds Hannah in a coffee shop with her friends and enters to speak with her. He tells Hannah he has a surprise for her and they get in his car. Once they are on the road, Caspian asks who Hannah really is and who her job is. Hannah is surprised as Caspian reveals he saw her talking with his mother. When Hannah refuses to tell truth, he locks her in his car and drives wildly through traffic.in panic Hannah reveals that she was an actress named Rachel Brooks who was hired by a shell company named Candle Street to act as Caspian’s girlfriend for a supposed social experiment and was paid one million dollars in upfront and five million more over the next few years. Caspian gets off the freeway and Rachel reveals she took the job because her mother needs cancer treatment and cannot afford it otherwise and that if she reveals anything to him they take the money back. Caspian promises to keep her confession secret if she helps him out.
At the Keyes house, Caspian and Renee finish dinner and have a conversation. Renee lies that the patient before her took longer than expected for therapy and she is healing nicely and she asks if he is still looking into Uploaded Intelligence, but Caspian says he is not. Renee's phone rings and she says she has to get muffins for a PTA meeting and insists she can drive herself. In the supermarket parking lot, Renee calls Rachel and Rachel says Caspian’s suspicions were a misunderstanding as Caspian listens in.
At the Kim House, everyone waits anxiously as Laurie reboots David. David is revived and does not remember the last twenty four hours. Laurie brings him up to speed as they discuss how to fix the flaw and bring David back to full speed. Cody suggests they get a floating data center like Laurie, but Maddie insists that they set it up at the house. Cody says they would need special equipment and Maddie demands he buy it as he has the money. Cody tries to talk the Kims out of it, but they do not relent.
Over the next few, days, servers, cooling systems, and a decile generator arrive at the house and they set it up, drawing attention from the neighbors. Once everything is set up, they log into the server and discuss how Logorhythms found them. They deduce that they are using a tracking system to find them and Ellen and Cody express concern that it is too dangerous to attack again. As they think off where Logorhythms would keep the data on uploads, Maddie mentions the black site in Norway, confusing the adults. She mentions Caspian to Laurie , but she does not recognize the name.
When Caspian is at school, he gets a notification that a spy camera caught something and he runs to the bathroom to check it out. He finds his mother speaking to someone on the phone about his father and Caspian is shocked when she says she broke her own arm when Cary hesitated. His mother tells them to find his father before hanging up. Caspian reflects on what he heard.
At the Keyes house, Renee is in her room packing and looks at her gun.
At the Kim house, they find the black site in Svalbard and Ellen mentions Pope flew in from overseas and had a specific phone with him.
At the Keyes house, Caspian arrives home and his mother reveals she has planned a surprise trip to Santa Barbara and could be there by night if they leave right then and there. Caspian says he has plans with “Hannah”, and his mother suggests they could get a second room and she can join them in a day. Caspian agrees to the trip and decides to reschedule with “Hannah”. Mother and son hug, each having their own anterior motives for the trip.
At the Kim House, David finds Pope in Norway and they hack his phone. After a few seconds, they drain Pope's phone and Pope has his phone returned to his office to recharge. Once it is charging, they find it in close to a laptop and David uses the phone's vibration function to walk it to the computer. David uses untrasonic tones in the air to type on the keyboard and gets Laurie access. They then sort through the files for anything on the flaw. In their search, they discover Chonda.
In India, Privi Chonda, Chonda's mother, gets a call from her son. She mentions Alliance and Chonda says he feels alone, but his mother insists he should meet other people before hanging up.
In Norway, Anssi says they are being hacked, but Pope tells them to let it happen as he contacts Waxman. Waxman says they found David's server in Sacramento and has Waxman send a team to delete David.
On the road, Caspian and Renee talk about camping his father took him on and his mother insits they could make up for lost time. Caspian turns up the air conditioning and his mother says she packed his sweatshirt and she reveals she went through his luggage when she had trouble lifting it. Caspisn is annoyed that she did this and apologizes and insists he needs his mini muffins. They stop for gas and Caspian find the gun as he is getting money for snacks. His mother has his fill up the tank and leaves to get snacks. She leaves the keys in the ignition and Caspian hops into the driver's seat and drives off.
At the Kim House, Ellen and Cody talk about the discovery of Chonda. Ellen is unsure if this means there are more UIs, but Cody feels their might only be three. Ellen compares UIs to discovering fire and thinks of the turbulence this technology can bring in the future when Maddie enters to reveal David and Laurie got all the files.
Logorhythms goons are in Sacramento tracking David’s server and follow the signel to a Chuckie Cheese.
At the Keyes, house, Caspian arrives home to find father. Cary tells Caspian he wants to apologize and Caspian demands answers. Cary reveals that Caspian's entire life is a lie. Cary reveals he worked for Stephen Holstrom and reveals Holstrom figured out how to upload minds but could not fix the flaw before dying of cancer. Cary says he and Renee are part of a digital immortality cult and that Holstrom's mind was irreplaceable. Cary reveals that Holstrom had a backup plan in case he died before curing the flaw. Caspian believes he was meant to be Holstrom's successor until Cary revealed Caspian is a clone of Holstrom and that they planned to raise him with the same experiences as Holstrom to get him to think like his template in order to crack integrity. Cary says it was an honor raising Caspian as Caspian exits the house in shock. Cary calls after him as Renee arrives, upon seeing her Cary reveals he told Caspian the truth. Renee tries to salvage the experiment, but Caspian. Ignores her. As Caspian and Cary enter the car, Renee pleads for them to stop and shoots Cary in the side. Caspian helps Cary in the car and gets in the drivers seat before driving off. In a state of shock Renee drops the gun and shouts “Stephen”, as they leave.,
At the Kim House, Laurie and David learn the flaw is naturally occurring and no cure currently exists. They also find find files on Caspian and share them with Maddie. They express their belief that Caspian might be the only person who could cure the flaw. Maddie is surprised to learn that Holstrom was cloned and her father insists Caspian is the last hope to be cured.
